2017 Bulletin #9

Thank you to all who supported the parish Oktoberfest! It was a beautiful day and everyone seemed to enjoy the event on the upper lot. I especially enjoy seeing our alums that come back to help!
The school and parish staff are preparing for ourupcoming construction of a community center, which will begin in a few weeks.ByOctober 23, the security fence should be installed and cars entering from the main driveway will only be able to turn LEFT at the top of the drive. I will be sharing more detailed information on how this will impact school in the next two bulletins.

All are invited to the"Hasta La Vista" partyas a final farewell to our current hall onSaturday, October 14. Tickets are availablehere.

Finally, I am away for the rest of the week attending the annualDiocesan Administrators' Conference. This conference provides dedicated time with elementary, high school and Department of Catholic Schools colleagues to learn and collaborate.

Today is the Feast of St. Francis Asissi so our prayer is for peace and hope:
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord
And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Counselor's Corner ~ Mrs. Kelli Bacher
Hereis a link to the letter regarding the Las Vegas incident earlier this week.

I have really enjoyed meeting so many students and parents over the past month at St. Perpetua! Please continue to introduce yourselves and please continue to send inCounseling Permission Slips.

Last week I was able to join the students who are new to St. P.s at a "New Student/ Counselor Luncheon". I was so happy to hear that those students have seemed to overall acclimate well. They all knew which adults to turn to if they needed help and they all have felt welcomed by their peers. Some were more talkative than others, so I do hope the quieter ones will let us know if they are not feeling as comfortable. Please thank all St. Perpetua students for being inclusive and please encourage them tocontinueto do so.

I have been working with many students on social issues and one topic that is reoccurring is the feeling of not fitting in. While most students do feel as if they are connecting with others, please let us know if your student is not. Please remind your students to be inclusive with all of their peers- across genders, ages, groups, and other differences.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime.

Thank you,
Kelli Bacher

Birthday Club-- Join the Club and help us get books kids love!
Please help us to continue building our library collection with books that kids love to read. Join the Birthday Club! For a small donation, your child gets to select a new book to be purchased for our school library. The book will have a nameplate in the front cover, celebrating your child's birthday. We collect all Birthday Club forms now, regardless of your child's birth date. In October, students select the new books that are ordered for the library. The Birthday Club student will be the FIRST student to borrow the new book from the library. S/he also gets to check out the Birthday Club book as an "extra" book, in addition to his/her regular library books. The kids love to participate just as much as they love to celebrate birthdays. Please consider helping our library to continue growing. Having kid-selected books in the library helps us to develop a love of reading.

If you'd like to download a Birthday Club form, go to our school website athttp://www.stperpetuaschool.org/programs/library/birthday_club/ Contact our school librarian, Stacey Hinton, with any questions atshinton@csdo.org
Notes from the Music Room... ~Mrs. Lisa Holmes
We are off to a great start! The students are singing, listening and learning music in many creative ways.

In an effort to encourage students and families to take advantage of our rich musical community, I have created a page of links to many of the organizations in the East Bay and San Francisco (see the pull down menu on my St. Perpetua School page). Please let me know if you would like to add a musical organization that you enjoy. In addition, I offer the students an opportunity for "extra credit" if they fill out a MUSICAL EVENT REPORT (available in the music room) after attending a concert.

I hope you find the list of links a useful tool. Happy listening!
