Bulletin #28/10/16

It's almost feels like Christmas for me at this time of year!Each morning I come into school and I am pleasantly surprised by a new bulletin board that has been completed, a delivery of school materials that has arrived, or the early presence of a teacher, excited for the new school year!

Next week, all staff is back with a full schedule for the week!On Monday, we will gather with all the other school employees throughout the diocese for a morning of prayer, learning and celebration.Tuesday through Thursday we have on-site staff meetings to review policies, best practices, and go over final details for the start of the school year.On Friday, we will have a staff retreat day, led by Paula Pardini (our older students know her from the Building Bridges program).

OnMonday, August 15, we look forward to welcoming our new families with a special gathering at 6:30 pm in the school library.We will share "everything you need to know about St. Perpetua" and answer any questions to help with the start of the school year.

I am so excited to welcome all of our students onMonday, 8/22, for the beginning of our 2016/17 school year.Students should come in 'dressy' free dress on this first day of school. Tuesday, 8/23 will be the first day to wear school uniforms.
Finally, I hope to see you for coffee onAugust 22.We will gather in the plaza near the front of the school once the students are led into their classrooms.Tuesday, August 23is Back-to-School night for all parents at 7pm in the church with classroom presentations for grades TK-5 following the presentation.Wednesday, August 24is Back-to-School Night for grades 6-8, but the presentation in the Church is specific to Jr. High and is different from the information that will be shared on Tuesday night.

If your child takes medications (prescription or non-prescription) that need to be kept on campus, you will need to bring the medications(in the original container)as well as the'Request for medication to be taken during school hours'form on the school websitebefore the first dayof school. Please be aware that if the medicine is a prescription, a doctor's signature is also required on the form.
Food For Thought

Family Participation Program
St. Perpetua School relies on parents to share their time, talents and treasures. Volunteer participation is necessary as tuition revenue does not cover operating costs of the school. Parent participation also ensures the success of social events and sustains school programs. Each family is required to complete35 volunteer hoursand report those hours to the volunteer chair, Ellen Drey (ellen.drey@gmail.com).Clickherefor detailed information on our program.
As a reminder, youcannot volunteerfor any school or class activities (including yard duty)until your are placed on the "all cleared" list by completing these three items for the office:
1)LIVESCAN FINGERPRINTING: Clickherefor the form.Note: you have to get a specific form from our front office, go to a LiveScan location for fingerprinting and bring the stamped form back to the school office.Once we get the results back from the Oakland Diocese, you will be officially cleared.

2) Certificate of completion for theSAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAININGonline (clickherefor Virtus online training).Note:if you completed your Shield The Vulnerable training in the period August 1, 2015 - May 30, 2016 (and we have your certificate on file in the office) you do not have to take Safe Environment/Virtus training until August, 2018.

OnFriday,September 30thVNA and Livescan Fingerprinting will be on campus again.VNA will administer both Flu shots and TB tests from 7:30am-10:00am. Livescan will offer fingerprinting from 7:30am-8:30am.
Yard Duty
Each family will be receiving an email to sign up for yard duty shifts on

Yard Duty Requirements:
- all families (Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten-only families are exempt)are
required to sign up for two Yard Duty slots
- any additional sign-ups will go towards your family participation hours.

If you would like tobe placed on the Yard Duty Sub list, contact the office and your name will be added to the list.
Panther House
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! I'm delighted to start another year in
Panther House. We've got some fun, new things lined for up this year and I look
forward to sharing them with you next week.
Children are welcome in Panther House on the second day of school,August 23.
We will be open both before school (7:00 to 8:00) AND after school ~ remember it is anoon dismissalon 8/23 ~ so make sure your children bring a bag lunch!

Our Panther Cubs Program for TK and Kindergarten welcomes children before
and after their scheduled instruction time for fun-filled enrichment activities.

Before your children can attend Panther House, you need to complete three forms.
See the following items necessary to complete you Panther House registration:

6th grade and new junior high students:
We encourage you to sign up for our Organizational Skills Class with Mrs. Heiskell. It is an excellent chance for 6th grade and new junior high students to learn how to juggle multiple teachers and subjects, while brushing up their organizational skills at the beginning of the brand new school year The class will begin with two classes during the first full week of school (Tuesday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Sept. 1). Clickherethe form, print, and send into the office. Don't miss out ~ it will be a fun way to kick-start a successful school year!
