Bulletin #3       8/17/16

Are you ready???We are getting very close!
The staff has a full agenda this week. We began on Monday with a gathering at the Cathedral of Christ the Light with the other 43 elementary school staff members where we celebrated Mass, celebrated years of service, and had a presentation from Ann Garrido on Catholic Identity in our schools.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week are staff days to cover a myriad of school business and on Friday we will have retreat day led by Paula Pardini. Our staff is ready and excited to start the new school year!

I am excited to introduce Anne Levy who will be assisting with Technology in the classrooms.Anne comes to us with Masters in Educational Technology and 15 years of teaching and teacher coaching experience. She is excited to be providing instruction to our 6th-8thgrade students and supporting our entire staff with further integration of technology and problem solving skills in the classroom. She will officially begin onAugust 29as she finalizes care for her young children.

As we are excited to welcome our new staff members, we also have to say goodbye to Caitlin Martindale.Caitlin has been our school counselor for the past 7 years and in this role she has assisted individual parents and students, staff members and classes. She will be transitioning to a public high school in Oakland where I am confident her gifts and skills will have a great impact on those students. We thank her for all she has done for our community and wish her the very best in her new endeavor!

A few reminders for the first week of school....... Please, Please, Please be sure to follow carpool procedures when dropping off and picking up your student(s).If you choose to park on the upper lot, you must walk your student across the street to the front of the school. If you choose to use the drop off/pick up line, make sure children enter and exit the car from the right hand side.Cars need to "follow the leader" and pull forward so as to expedite the drop off/pick up process. Our staff will be out to assist as needed.

Tuesday, August 23 is Back to School night for all parents at7pmin the church with classroom presentations for grades TK-5 following.Wednesday, August 24is Back to School Night for grades 6-8 but the presentation in the Church is specific to Jr. High and is different from the information that will be sharedon Tuesdaynight.

Peace and Blessings,
Karen Goodshaw

Loving God,

Our creator, our savior, our companion, bless this journey of a new school year.
Refresh our soulsand renew our spiritsas we embrace the beautiful ministry you have called us to.
We welcome those who are new to this community andask that you strengthen them to share the wonderful gifts you have given them.

Lord, make our hearts pure as we prepare for the return of students to this school,
and may you guide them to return with open hearts and minds eager to learn.

We ask this in Your name,
Amen

Lafayette Road Construction Update
Below is a very important message fromJames Hinkamp,Transportation Planner,City of Lafayette:
As I understand, the new school year will begin next week. And, as you may be aware, construction on the planned roundabout at the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Olympic Boulevard commenced in late July, with estimated completion in February 2017.
In advance of the upcoming school year, the City respectfully asks that local schools be mindful of traffic impacts, particularly for the morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups, respectively. Information about the project is readily available at the City website. Using the following link, interested parties can follow project progress and learn about upcoming announcements at thiswebsitelink.

A letter to residents proximate to the project was distributed earlier last month (datedJuly 8th), and is also featured at the above link. It provides additional detail on anticipated impacts. We would encourage the St Perpetua administration to help distribute this information to all faculty and staff, parents and students.
Furthermore, as you may be aware, the City also plans to install new traffic signals on Reliez Station Road, west of the roundabout. This project will be re-bid early 2017 with construction beginning probably early spring. Barring any delays, that particular project could expect to complete around May 2017.
Also copied to this message is Farzaneh Sanders, Senior Engineer for Lafayette, who is managing the construction project. She is available for project-specific questions and may be reached atfsanders@lovelafayette.orgor925.299.3209.
Thank you,
James
