My Goals and Role as St. Perpetua School Counselor
As adults, we must role-model to kids that we are open to being proactive and to reaching out for help as needed. Most of us find ways to manage physical pain by seeking support from doctors. Or we may seek tutoring for our kids if they need extra academic assistance. It is essential to also role-model that we all need social and emotional support at times. It is important to allow students the opportunity to be proactive in reaching out for support in anyway needed.
My goal as a school counselor is to support the philosophy of St. Perpetua School, to “work in partnership with parents, the primary educators, for the development of the whole child: spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.” I am here to promote wellness and ensure that students have resources to help them understand ways to better take care of themselves, connect with others and be successful in their own goals. I am also available to meet with students when they are facing challenges. Some common issues that arise are boundary setting with friends, self-esteem, meeting academic potential, grief/loss, anxiety and adjusting to change.
I am at school Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-4pm each week. Some ways I support students and families each week are:
-
Meeting individually with students to develop strategies to improve school performance, social skills, communication, peer relationships and/ or to work through other social-emotional difficulties
-
Leading classes in SEL lessons or restorative circles related to improved social interactions, academic success and self-care
-
Working with students in groups to support one another around topics such as self-esteem, friendship and transitions
-
Consulting with parents and teachers to find best ways to support students
-
Referring to resources as needed
Additionally, I provide wellness information and tips on my webpage where you will find resources and links to topics related to Anxiety, Self-care, Technology’s Impact on our kids, and more. I organize 1-2 Parent Education events each year as well. I welcome your input on relevant topics you would like to see on my Webpage, Bulletin Articles or at Parent Ed events.
If your student doesn't have a Permission Slip on File, and if you would like your student to have the option to meet with me individually, please complete and return this Counseling Permission Slip.
